9 Reasons I am Proud of my Kids

My children have really surprised and impressed me these last few weeks (more so than normal) and I thought I would share with you why.

  1. Nearly two weeks ago I fell down stairs and broke my ankle, it was a bad break and you could see bones out of place. At the time my hubs and smallest were out and it was just me and the eldest in the house. After I fell, I knew the break was bad and I wasn't getting down the next flight of stairs without medical help. I shouted for Heather, who came upstairs and saw the state of me. I asked her to phone an ambulance, then phone her Dad, and get me a glass of water and a bowl as I thought I might throw up. She phoned the ambulance, answered all the questions they asked her and put an ice pack on my ankle, she phoned her Dad and got me the water and bowl. Then she stayed with me and held my hand until her Dad got back. She is twelve. I am phenomenally proud of her calmness in such a stressful situation.  After her Dad got home she burst into tears, terrified and concerned for me.
  2. Whilst I was in hospital for five days being put together again, hubs tells me my girls were on their very best behaviour as he rushed about getting them to school, doing the laundry, feeding the kids and visiting me in hospital. Not a single argument or scuffle.
  3. Normally, eldest walks to the bus stop in the morning to go to school and smallest is taken by me to the childminders in the morning, (hubs goes to work at silly o'clock and misses the whole morning routine) before I go to work. Now, eldest is walking smallest to the childminder, which is out of her way, then going to the bus stop. This is something we would never have normally asked the eldest to do as it puts unnecessary pressure on her, but again, they both seem to have taken to this like ducks to water, no bickering or messing about, holding hands crossing roads. So proud.
  4. Eldest is currently getting home before her Dad as he is doing compulsory overtime. So between us we are getting tea ready, I am surprised just how capable she is. On Pasta Tuesday (yes, that's a thing) she did the whole dinner herself.
  5. In the mornings, Eldest is bringing me my breakfast and turning all the lights out (previously a mahoosive issue), smallest is opening the blinds and getting themselves all sorted before they go to school.
  6. Both have had to adapt as I take up all the sofa accept a small space at the end (I have to keep my ankle elevated), there has been a little bit of jostling over the small space at the end, but on the whole they have just gone with it.
  7. They are both fetching and carrying for me without any complaints.
  8. They are both helping their Dad more with chores around the house.
  9. Overall, they have completely adapted to the situation and raised their game, eldest checks that I am OK, all the time. I am being completely looked after and they are making a huge contribution to this. (Hubs is obviously awesome and has been fan-bloody-tastic throughout).
Love my kids.
