Changing the World, One small person at a time.

I don't know about you, but I want to be a person that makes a change. I want to improve the world I live in, and feel proud that things have changed as a result of my actions.

I am a mother of daughters, both of whom I am incredibly pleased to see growing into strong, confident young women.

I know that the way I am bringing them up helps them to have self confidence. I talk to them about the nonsense that the media throws at us, using photo-shop to turn women into a perfectly unachievable things

I have had frank discussions with both of them about anorexia and body image. We have discussed mental health as the root of problems with body dysmorphia and they understand that anorexia can be an issue with a person needing some kind of control, and the only control they can achieve themselves, is about what they put in their body. In other words, a person doesn't let themselves get that thin unless there is an underlying issue.

I try to demystify myths, and try to encourage them to be natural women, promoting beautiful, intelligent older women like Judi Dench and Helen Mirren, who to my knowledge have not used plastic surgery to supplement their beauty.

I help them to understand that day to day life and the life of a supermodel or an actress or singer at the top of their game compared to the day to day life of a person who goes to work, rears children, cleans the house themselves etc....are two very different things.

I don't know if I will be able to change the world, or do anything massive, however, what I can do , is create beautiful kind children, who care about the world they live in, who don't think body image is more important than personality and intelligence.

I also talk to them about politics (they both have their own opinions about Brexit) and the environment, I don't shy away from subjects like abuse, but try to educate and encourage them to try to understand a situation or person before they make any kind of decision.
My Daughters

My eldest daughter is 15 and well into her teens and my youngest 11. Now, more than ever, I need to be there for them, to help them, talk to them, and listen....mostly listen, to what they have to say. And what they have to say is really really interesting and enlightened, and their perspective of the world they live in.

I am so very proud of these young people that I have created (with the help of my husband, who, in fairness, has done a wonderful job of being and incredibly positive male role model), these are the people who will make the change and change the world. If we all do this we really do have a future to look forward to.

We really can change the world, one small person at a time.
